Spring RV Maintenance Checklist
These quick checks prevent the most common “first trip problems” and help you decide what you can DIY and what should go on the schedule.

RV de-winterization checklist

Flush the system thoroughly and catch leaks early, before they become soaked-floor surprises.

  • Fill fresh tank about halfway, turn on pump.
  • Open every faucet and fixture: kitchen, bath, shower, outside shower, toilet, sprayer, ice maker line if equipped.
  • If you still see pink, keep flushing. Outside shower and toilet sprayer get missed constantly.
  • With all faucets closed, the pump should stop and stay off. If it cycles, you likely have a leak or loose fitting.

Sanitize RV fresh water tank

Once per year minimum. Spring is the clean reset button.

  • Mix: 1/4 cup bleach per 16 gallons (or 1 oz per 8 gallons). Dilute in at least a gallon of water first.
  • Pump through all lines until you smell bleach at each fixture.
  • Let sit, then flush until clear and odor-free.
  • Water-heater valve sanity check: confirm valves are set correctly and the tank is refilled before heating.

Propane leak test

Three minutes now beats a ruined weekend later.

  • Check for corrosion and confirm connections are snug.
  • Do a soapy-water bubble test on fittings and connections.
  • Rotten-egg smell, fast propane loss, or weak appliance flame can indicate a leak.
  • If anything seems off, stop and schedule service. Do not “send it.”

RV roof inspection and reseal

Roof inspection beats roof repair. Every time.

  • Remove debris first, then inspect before washing.
  • Look for cracks, gaps, or separated sealant around vents, corners, skylights, and front/rear caps.
  • Avoid high-pressure spray around seals, vents, and rooftop components.
  • If you see failed sealant, get it addressed early. Water damage is expensive and quiet.

Spring RV maintenance checklist

The “do not skip” safety loop: tires, wheels, brakes, lights, tow connection.

  • Check tire pressure, look for sidewall cracking, and confirm tire age.
  • Tighten lug nuts as appropriate for your setup.
  • Verify tow electrical connection so brakes and lights work correctly.
  • Do a full walkaround: running lights, brake lights, turn signals, trailer brake function.

When to book service

These symptoms deserve a bay, not a guess.

  • Pump cycles randomly, persistent leaks, or “mystery” water smells.
  • Propane odor, weak flames, or fast propane loss.
  • Weak charging, battery issues, or anything electrical acting haunted.
  • Soft floor spots, roof seal concerns, or visible sealant failure.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price total?
Yes, these are flat-rate specials. If your unit has additional appliances (ice-makers, etc.), we will quote any extra steps first. No hidden fees.
How long does it take?
Most specials are completed within 30-60 minutes on our dedicated Fast-Lane days. Regular bay service varies by shop load.
What services are included?
Each special includes exactly what is listed plus a courtesy multi-point inspection by certified RVIA technicians.
Do you honor warranty work?
Yes! We are an authorized repair center for Forest River, Keystone, Palomino, and more. Certified installation is also available.
Do I need an appointment?
We highly recommend booking online to guarantee your spot, especially during high-demand seasonal peaks.
How do I de-winterize my RV water system?
Fill the fresh tank about halfway, turn on the pump, then open every faucet and fixture to flush until clear. Do not forget the outside shower and toilet sprayer. With everything closed, the pump should stop and stay off. Cycling usually means a leak or loose fitting.
How do I sanitize the fresh water tank?
Use 1/4 cup bleach per 16 gallons (or 1 oz per 8 gallons), diluted in at least a gallon of water. Pump through lines until you smell it at each fixture, let sit, then flush until clear and odor-free. Confirm water-heater valves are set correctly before heating.
Do you perform propane leak tests?
Yes. If you smell propane, notice weak appliance flames, or see fast propane loss, schedule service. Basic home checks include a soapy-water bubble test on fittings, but service testing provides a clearer answer and safe next steps.
How often should I inspect my roof and seals?
Quick visual checks before your first spring trip and after major storms. Focus on vents, corners, skylights, and front/rear caps. Catching a small sealant failure early prevents most water damage issues.
What if my water pump keeps cycling?
With all faucets closed, the pump should stop and remain off. If it cycles, you likely have a leak, a loose fitting, or an issue at the pump or check valve. If you cannot locate it quickly, book service before it escalates.
Can I turn on the water heater right away?
Turn it on only after the tank is refilled and valves are set correctly. Heating a dry tank can damage the element fast. If you are unsure, schedule a dewinterize and we will set it up correctly.
